Friuli Venezia Giulia

Friuli Venezia Giulia is the region located at the north-eastern end of Italy, on the border with Slovenia and Austria. Overlooking the Adriatic Sea and surrounded by high mountains, Friuli Venezia Giulia encompasses many different landscapes.

Impressive is the Karst plateau, formed by bare rock beaten by the wind, where the erosion of the soil gave rise to a series of caves, cavities and "resurgences".
Spectacular are the high mountain views of the Eastern Dolomites, Carnia and the Julian Alps, including lakes, valleys and protected areas. From the border with Veneto to Monfalcone, the coast is bordered by lagoons and has long sandy beaches, where there are various tourist resorts including the renowned Lignano Sabbiadoro. From Monfalcone to Trieste, the coast is rocky.
To the great variety of landscapes corresponds an equally rich and varied cultural heritage, determined by a complex history and by the confluence, in this land, of different populations. For this reason Friuli Venezia Giulia presents itself as a small universe in which many different traditions merge: it is the "land of contrasts".
The provinces of Friuli Venezia Giulia are: Trieste (chief town), Gorizia, Pordenone, Udine.

Tourist resorts in Friuli, apart from Trieste, Udine, Pordenone, Cividale and Aquileia, are less renown, yet their wines and natural products are famous all over the world: an ideal region for challenging gastronomic tours.
